The emergence of cultures throughout our world have been in great part due to the historical events that have occurred. While colonization is only one of the many events, it is the leading factor that drives cultural development and establishment. During colonization, members of kinship and descent societies become occupied, colonized, and eventually an attempt is made to civilize the members into becoming more like the â€Å"colonizers†. Such is what happened to the Native Americans when Europeans immigrated to what is now called the United States of America. At first, a proclamation instituted by Great Britain tried to protect indigenous peoples’ territory from encroachment, but it was not effective as people later placed economic and social†¦show more content†¦These same European powers were the face of modernism. They projected their ideals and customs onto communities and cultures that had yet formed into nation-states. Modernism rejected the idea of hono r and kinship as the basis for establishing the legitimacy of governance. This was necessary for the making of the modern world, which was characterized by several colonial intrusions including but not limited to economic and resource exploitation, political domination, and cultural subordination. In addition, the cultural constructions of collective identity involve those same three main dynamics. Both the Europeans and later the Americans dominated the Native Americans in terms of land control and military power. They exploited their resources by taking over their lands, and they made it evident that their culture was subordinate by ruling almost every aspect of it. European and American societies justified these behaviors by stating that they were â€Å"civilizing† the â€Å"primitives†. They then established territorial boundaries that benefited their interests, and they ignored the cultures of the indigenous, creating a non-historical nation.
